BARACUDA BATUCADA BUSKING FOR JAPAN ON ORCHARD ROAD

On 26th March 2011, four days before my birthday (no relevance to this post whatsoever), about two hours before Earth Hour 2011 (this one of global significance) an evening stroll along Orchard Road around the corner of our Meritus Mandarin Hotel drop-off was a bit of commotion I couldn’t help but check out. I love drums. I don’t play them as a musical instrument because I am not musically inclined but I enjoy the sound drums make. And the drumming made by the Baracuda Batucada band was uplifting. I had no idea who they were at first but suffice to know at the time that they were busking for a good cause — earthquake and Tsunami victims of Japan. Essentially, Baracuda Batucada is an award winning repercussion band that comprises of passionate musicians from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a humble beginning of a 3-man team. Today, the team has a stronghold of 46 members from different backgrounds and experience. In short, the BB are musicians wanting to make a difference to the world community!
Baracuda Batucada is the name of the group and make you groove, they will. With a history back from 2004, the samba ensemble has been rocking crowds out and entertained many people for many events. Starting out on campus, Baracuda Batucada has performed in many different places since then. From Orchard Road, Zouk to even China, the group has grown much over the years, rocking out their addictive samba percussion tunes. Their hard rocking beats have certainly made their name sound far and wide. — BB
